Latin American and Caribbean studies is a subject that many students don’t learn about, in school we learn about U.S history but nothing else. I think that learning about Latin American and Caribbean studies would be important to study because it gives students a larger picture into different places. What you hear or think about some place is not the same from what the people hear and think of their home. There are some school districts that felt that the books used to teach these studies promoted racial hatred (The Arizona Republic). They argued that teaching students that are Latin American and Caribbean their background would cause a racial divide in schools but they can be taught about other cultures and not feel racially divided from other students.

The books that students use in school are usually filled with america history that have been edited to fit the ideals of racially biased historians that don’t want the truth to be told. Studying the geography of Latin America and Caribbean can also be important to learn about because you’re learning about how this place came to be and how the people are able to live there.
